Lee E. Dillenbeck, 81, of Elgin, died Saturday, August 11, 2001.

He was born July 24, 1920 in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, the son of Salathiel and Lena (Eger) Dillenbeck.

He served in the Air Force as a B-25 radar operator on missions over Germany, having enlisted after Pearl Harbor.

Returning to Elmhurst College after the war, he received his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, and as a civilian employee of Westinghouse in the early 1950's, he helped develop the nuclear submarines Nautilus and Skipjack under Admiral Rickover.

He had been a resident of Elgin since 1968, and taught at Elgin Community College for more than twenty years, where he was known by many in the community as a devoted, effective, and energetic real estate instructor.

Survivors include his beloved sister, Madeline, of Elgin; his longtime friend, Margaret Muntz, of Elgin; his daughter, Amy (Scott Palsce) Henne of Albuquerque, NM; his sons, Thomas (Mary) of Santa Cruz, CA and David of Elgin; his grandson, Peter Henne of Portland, OR; and his nieces, Julie (Keith Dahl) Gordon of St. Paul, MN and Judy "Jaye" (Ed Jones) Gordon of Oak Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Thomas Concidine, and his second son, Peter.
