From Missouri Record of Death Transcript: Jackson County, Roll C 19510, Page 97, #4030 ~ George C Koehler, Jr ~ 17 Jun 1900 ~ Male ~ White ~ Age: 10 months ~ Place of death: 1728 Bellview * ~ Cause of death: Enteritis ~ Informant: Dr D H Riegle
* The 1900 Federal Census reports residence at 1728 Holly while 13 days later, George's death record transcript shows 1728 Bellview [sic]. Actually, Holly and Belleview are just two blocks apart at that place in town, so it is likely either the census enumerator or the reporting physician erred when reporting the address.
Little George's father, Fred Koehler, went on to become a jeweler and died in 1929 at the age of 59. Sadly, he was a suicide. George's mother, Ada Charlotte Cleveland Koehler, passed away at age 64 in 1936 of hypertension. They are buried at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, Missouri, along with George's brother, Frederick Eugene Koehler.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Sometimes the story of a life has to be coaxed ever so gently and patiently out of a gravestone. Such is the case with little George's story. For nearly two years, this lonely little marker held its secret from me. Precariously balanced on a concrete block on a slope near the east end of Spruce Road and resting against a tree, it was mostly covered with lichen. Numerous photos were taken at various times of the day, in bright and diffused lighting, over the course of those two years. The marker was gently washed with distilled water and a natural fiber brush. Photographs were manipulated to try to decipher the writing and it was wrapped with aluminum foil and gently brushed to get a rubbing, but the vital information steadfastly remained elusive. In late September 2011, I once again drove by the gravestone and it called to me. Another set of photos taken. When I checked the photos upon returning home, I found that Baby George was finally ready to reveal himself to me. The images on this memorial are exactly as they looked when the revelation came and have not been manipulated or enhanced. My goal now is to have Baby George's gravestone reset in the original place his parents selected (10 rows west and 40 spaces south!) so it is safe for future generations to know that once there was a little boy named George C Koehler who lived and died and Kansas City, Missouri. ~ J F-B, 26 Sep 2011. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ If you add links or photographs to this memorial, will you please use "Edit" (upper right corner) to let me know?
