Charles Claggett
Birth: Mar. 23, 1908
Death: Jan. 8, 1998

Writer and producer. As early as 1933, he became a legend in the advertising business. He wrote and produced the old Tom Mix western shows on radio. The Tom Mix craze began with a full-page newspaper ad for St. Louis-based Ralston Purina's Hot Ralston cereal. More than 250,000 children responded to the ad, setting the world's record for direct returns from a single advertisement. "Tom Mix and his Ralston Straightshooters" were the result. (bio by: Connie Nisinger)
