US Congressman. He was elected to represent two different Illinois Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives during the Civil War, first representing the 9th District from 1862 to 1863, then the 13th District, serving from 1863 to 1865. He served as a Illinois delegate to the Democratic National Convention during every Presidential election from 1860 to 1888.
