Journalist, Political Activist. Jarrett began his career writing for the Chicago Defender in 1946. He is credited with broadcasting the first African-American daily radio news broadcast in the United States with Oscar Brown, Jr., beginning in 1948. He is also said to be the first African American columnist for the Chicago Tribune, beginning work there in 1970. Later, Jarrett worked for the Chicago Sun-Times and WLS-TV in Chicago. He was a long time host on WVON-AM radio in Chicago discussing political issues of importance to the African-American community. Jarrett's daughter-in-law Valerie Jarrett became a senior advisor to President Barack Obama.
