Governor of Ohio, Mayor of Toledo, Lawyer. Born in New York City, he moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1911 with his family when he was a child. DiSalle studied law at Georgetown University, graduated in 1931, and was admitted to the bar in Ohio in 1932. He commenced to practice as an attorney in Toledo. He became a member of the Ohio Legislature for one year in 1938 and was then elected to the Toledo City Council. DiSalle served on the council until he was elected as Toledo's Mayor in 1948. He unsuccessfully ran for Congress as a Democrat in 1946. He was reelected as Mayor in 1950 but resigned to accept an appointment as the United States Director of Price Stabilization and served in that capacity until 1952. He lost election to the U.S. Senate in 1952 and for Governor of Ohio in 1956. In 1958, he was elected as Ohio's 60th Governor. DiSalle was the first Ohio Governor elected to serve a four year term. As Governor, he supported state funding in education, correctional facilities, the Ohio Highway Patrol, and the transportation infrastructure involving the interstate highway system. He served as Governor until 1963 and was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1962. He resumed his career as an attorney and practiced in Washington D.C. and Columbus, Ohio. He was also a delegate to the Democratic National Convention from Ohio in 1948, 1956, and 1960. He died from a heart attack in 1981 when he was 73 years old.
