Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the Union Army as a Private in Company H, 2nd United States Regular Cavalry. His Medal of Honor action occurred October 9, 1864 at Woodstock, Virginia. His citation (issued October 14, 1864) reads "Capture of flag of 32d Battalion Virginia Cavalry (C.S.A.)."  (bio by: Lawrence Hildebrand)
