Composer and Musician. Original member of the vocal group The Valentinos. With Bobby Womack as lead singer, Harry sang tenor and was bass guitarist for the group. He was born Harris Womack in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of Naomi and Friendly Womack, Sr. Along with his brothers Bobby, Cecil, Friendly, Jr. and Curtis he began singing gospel in his father's Baptist church, known then as The Womack Brothers. Around 1956 Harry and his brothers were discovered by Sam Cooke who later signed the group to his record label SAR. After releasing two singles " Lookin For A Love" (1962) and It's All Over Now" (1964) under the name The Womack Brothers, Both singles sold millions of copies; Sam changed the group's name to The Valentinos. After the death of Same Cooke (1964) SAR Records folded and the group moved to Chess Records where they had little success. Bobby left the group in 1967 and in the 1970's the remaining Valentinos disbanded. In 1973 Friendly, Jr., Curtis and Harry reformed the group with Coltillion Records; they recorded "I Can Understand It". The Valentinos recordings ceased in 1974 when Harry was stabbed and killed. Ever since his brother's death, Bobby Womack's recording "Harry Hippie" (1973) has been dedicated to his brother. (bio by: Babe)
