Revolutionary War General. Arriving from Ireland in 1741 with his father, John Potter, he began his military career by serving in the militia for Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. He achieved the rank of Colonel in 1775 and by 1777 was Brigadier General of the Pennsylvania troops. In addition to his military service, Potter farmed and was involved in state politics, serving for a short time as Vice-President of Pennsylvania. (bio by: NatalieMaynor)
