Champion of women's rights, teacher, editor, critic, foreign correspondent and author. An exemplar, outspoken woman of women's rights and among the most prominate woman in the intellectual circle in Boston. Her book Woman in the Nineteenth Century was the first detailed statement of feminism in America, inspriring the first women's rights convention at Seneca Falls, NY in 1848. Died with her husband and two-year-old son in a shipwreck off Long Island NY. (bio by: mj)
