James McQueen Forsyth
Birth: Jan. 1, 1842
Death: Aug. 3, 1915

United States Navy Rear Admiral. He entered the volunteer Navy during the Civil War, and was appointed Acting Master's Mate on September 25, 1861. He took part in the capture of Fort Clarke and Fort Hatteras, and in engagements with Admiral David Farragut on the Mississippi River. He also was in engagements against Fort Sumter and other fortifications in Charleston harbor, North Carolina. He entered the regular Navy and was commissioned Master, March 12, 1968, and then promoted through the ranks to Captain on March 3, 1899. He retired on September 25, 1901, after forty years of service, with the rank of Rear Admiral. (bio by: Dennis Alan Deel)
