Businesswoman. She co-founded Stax Records in 1957. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Stax became a rival to Detroit's giant Motown sound. Ms. Axton's record company produced hits from acts including Sam and Dave, Otis Redding Jr., Rufus and Carla Thomas, Booker T. and the MGs, Johnny Taylor, Albert King, Rick Dees and the Staple Singers. Her son was musician Charles "Packy" Axton.  (bio by: Deleon Todd)

I am a huge fan of Stax Records and I love the music that came from there years ago even though it was before my time. There's no doubt that from the other side you've seen the Stax Museum in the exact same location as the previous building formerly stood...(Read more)
