He learned to play guitar while he and his brothers' played at fish fries and local picnics. Eventually he turned to the mandolin learning to play well enough to gain a name for himself. He made only two records, but they were so steeped in blues tradition that they are considered a must have for many collectors. He then recorded 'Dirty Disposition' for Trumpet, featuring him on mandolin. He also recorded for Adelphi Records, but the songs were never issued. (bio by: Elizabeth Reed)
