Singer, Music Producer. Nicknamed "Long John" for his 6'7" height, he was known for launching the careers of Rod Stewart and The Rolling Stones, as well as a career in his own right. A few of his hits include "Let the Heartaches Begin" and "Don't Try to Lay No Boogie Woogie on the King of Rock and Roll." He started playing in rock and blues groups while a teen. Over the years he worked with the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, as well as Elton John and Rod Stewart who co-produced his 1971 release "It Ain`t Easy." He moved to Canada in 1980 where his music was already popular living near Hamilton, Ontario where he played at Festival of Friends along with other events. Following the murder of his longtime friend John Lennon he spoke to a huge crowd at a vigil outside Toronto City Hall. Baldry released albums and did live performances for the CBC`s Saturday Night Blues program. Into the 1990s he lived in Vancouver. He was well known as a heavy drinker and occationally missed shows. In April 2005 he suffered a serious chest infection which he didnt recover from and died four months later at age 64. (bio by: Kevin Hobbs)
