Architect. With his father Richard Upjohn he co-founded Richard Upjohn and Son, an architectural firm that designed buildings in 17 states and 3 European countries and was known chiefly for its Gothic churches. On his own, he was most noted for the capitol building in Hartford, Connecticut. He was president of the New York chapter of the American Institute of Architects. A long-time resident of Brooklyn (296 Clinton Street), he was a founder of the Long Island Historical Society, and with his father, designed the great Gothic Gatehouse of Green-Wood Cemetery, where he is buried. (bio by: Bob Collins)
