Lyle Holcombe Miller
Birth: Mar. 10, 1889
Death: Mar. 11, 1973

US Marine Corps Brigadier General. Born in Calhoun County, Michigan, he began his military career as officer on July 1, 1914, being commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps. After serving in World War I, through the 1920s, he commanded the Marine detachment in Arizona, spent time in the recruiting command, went to the General service school at Fort Leavenworth and was promoted Major in 1930. In 1932, he went to China and began work on the tentative Manual for Amphibious Landing Operations. By 1934, he was a Lieutenant Colonel in command of 1st Battalion, 5th Marines and was Colonel in command of the Marine Recruit Depot Parris Island, in 1939. With the advent of World War II, he was Chief of Staff, Amphibious Force, Pacific Fleet when he went to China and India, in the Asian Theater. In November 1944, he returned to the United States, served in the Department of Navy and retired a Brigadier General in June 1945. He died in Florida, at age 84. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
