US Congressman. He served in the United States House of Representatives from January 1937 to January 1947 as a representative from Washington's 6th Congressional District. A graduate of the University of Washington in Seattle, and the Yale University law department, he was admitted to the Washington State Bar Association in 1922. He served as a secretary to U.S. Senator Clarence C. Dill from 1923 to 1924, and as a member of the National Recovery Administration from 1933 to 1935. Prior to serving in Congress he worked as an appraiser and examiner for the Washington State Inheritance Tax and Escheat Division in Pierce County, Washington, and as a civil service commissioner in Tacoma, Washington. He was defeated for re-election to Congress in 1946. Following his defeat to Congress, he returned to Washington where he practiced law in the cities of Seattle and Tacoma until his death.
