British Lord, Cabinet Minister. He served as Trade Secretary and Transport Secretary under the Margaret Thatcher Government, and as a Member of Parliament from 1959 to 1997. He attended Christ Church, Eton and Oxford universities and performed military service with the Royal Horse Guards before entering the British Government. In 1959 he was elected to the House of Commons as a member of the Conservative Party, representing the District of Southend West. In 1997 he joined the House of Lords earning a life peerage and the title Baron Kelvedon of Ongar. He died at his family home in Brentwood, Essex at the age of 71. (bio by: Nils M. Solsvik Jr.)
