Morton Goldberg
Birth: 1916
Death: 1996

Gamesman. Better known as "Boston Shorty," he is considered one of the greatest pool players in the history of the game. He was born in Rochester, New York, where he became the area's billiards champion at age 17. He switched to pool and won first the Monroe County, then the New York State, U.S. North East and finally national championships. During his professional career, he defeated national champions such as Irving Crane, Minnesota Fats and Willie Mosconi. He earned his nickname due to his diminutive (5'2") stature while stationed in Boston with the US Army (and playing pool) during WWII.  (bio by: Mount Hope NY)
