Kurt Crain
Birth: Dec. 31, 1964
Jefferson County
Alabama, USA
Death: Mar. 10, 2012
Mobile County
Alabama, USA

Professional Football Player, College Coach. Crain started out playing college football at Memphis before transferring to Auburn University in 1986 where he achieved All-American status playing linebacker. Selected team captain his senior year, Crain recorded a team leading total of 168 tackles which is still the second highest total in Auburn season statistics. He still holds the Auburn record of 19 solo stops and 26 total tackles all in one game. Following college, Crain was selected by the Houston Oilers in the 1988 NFL Draft. Playing only two years of professional football with the Oilers and Green Bay Packers, he returned to Auburn as a graduate assistant coach. His career as a college coach saw tenures at Troy, Texas Christian, Auburn and finally at South Alabama where he was associate head coach. He was known as a great motivator and mentor who cared about his players and they greatly respected him in return. Sadly, Crain shocked everyone by committing suicide following a series of operations for prostaitis. (bio by: Ron Moody)
