Durant - Funeral for WILLIE "BILL" WADE, JR., 82, Durant, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at 7th and Beech Church of Christ, with John Curtis officiating.
Mr. Wade Jr. died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, in Ardmore.
Burial will be in Wade Family Cemetery in Unger under direction of Brown's Durant Funeral Service.
He was born Nov. 27, 1925, in Rufe, to Willie Sr. and Joyce Frances Benson Wade. He attended 4-Mile School near Rush Springs, and graduated from Boswell High School in 1947. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Division in the European Theater. He returned home aboard the Queen Mary.
He attended Murray State College, and married Mary Frances Smith on Dec. 21, 1950. He then attended Southeastern State College and was one of the original founders of the first rodeo club. He was also a member of the photography club. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in 1954, and later received his master's degree in school administration. He taught chemistry, physics, photography, and industrial arts, and was a principal at Mannsville, Star-Spencer, Meeker, Elgin, Boswell, Sterling, Fletcher and Clayton. He was admitted to OU Medical School twice, but due to family concerns he was unable to finish. He also became a realtor for Park/Jones in Lawton. In addition, he was a farmer and rancher and a member of the Choctaw Nation, the Silver-Haired Legislature, American Legion and Lions Club. He traveled the rodeo circuit all across the United States.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances of the home; children and their spouses, Billy Frances Pierce and Ed, Unger, Jackie and Roy Stilwell, Oklahoma City, Willie Wade III and Linda, Yukon, Sarah Wade and Ron Woods, Sterling, Becky and Robert Peterson, Durant, and John Wade, serving in the U.S. Army overseas; grandchildren, Roy Stilwell, Marla and Ward Grisham, Rachel and Jeremy Nichols, Rebekah, John Mark, and David Stilwell, Jeannie and Will New, Caleb, Sabre, and Wade Peterson, Morgan Reagan, Lea, and Tim Isbill, Rachel Wade, and Desirea Larsen; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Madison Grisham, Harley New, Bradley Stillwell Warner, Destiny New, and Tayleigh Torres; great-aunt, Bonnie Pruitt; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
