Peggy Acuff, born March 5, 1945 in Rector, AR, to Johnny and Margaret Gunn Mathis. She grew up in California, where she met the love of her life, her husband and soul mate, Roy Acuff. They had three children, two daughters, Michelle Ramirez and Susie Acuff and one son, Roy Acuff, Jr. Peggy was a member of Finch Baptist Church in Paragould, AR. She worked for Egan Manufacturing and Fort Howard Paper Co., while in Muskogee. Then she and her husband started working construction and moving around. Several years later making their home in Paragould, AR. Upon retirement they moved to Muskogee to spent their last years together here. Peggy died August 17, 2009 in Muskogee. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Gunn Mathis; father, Johnnie G. Mathis; three brothers, Sammy Mathis, Dillon Mathis, Johnny Wayne Mathis. Survivors include her husband, Roy E. Acuff, of the home; children, Michelle Ramirez and Susie Acuff of Fort Gibson and Roy E. Acuff, Jr. of Malvern, AR; four granddaughters and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by five sisters, Brenda Nichols of Armona, CA, Carolyn Palmer and Donna and Bill Hyde of Paragould, AR, Micki and Craig Gross of Corcoran, CA and Pat Haile of Clovis, CA. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Vaught Cemetery with Rev. Wendell Cox officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home.
