Birth: Feb. 27, 1914
Oklahoma, USA
Death: Sep. 11, 2011

Letha Allen, the second of two girls, was born to the late J.A. and Lessie Allen, near Beggs, Oklahoma on February 27th, 1914 in a log cabin, still near Beggs. Later Jim moved the family on the Slue Thompson Ranch, also near Beggs. She started school, named Woodbind, for eight years, two years high school at Beggs Wheatley, and three years at Slick Vocational High. She loved to play basketball, pitch horseshoes, play jack and ball, spin the top and help her mother piece and quilt quilts. She also enjoyed helping Jim feed the pigs and horses and was an all around "outside girl". Letha and her sister joined the Adam Hill Church on Sunday, November 4, 1926. Reverend Norward baptized them together. She married John F. Johnson and to this union a beautiful son was born, Gene. Letha was preceded in death by her parents, son, sister, a great grandson and husband. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Tuskegee Baptist Church with Reverend Ernest Kellum officiating. Interment will follow in the Tuskegee Cemetery. Casketbearers will be John McGee, Herman Butler, Leonard Burrell, Myron Lewis, Darrell Redeau and Jerome Dugas. Flower bearers will be Donna Kellum, Etta Mae Dubois, Luella Burrell and Marsha Williams. Friends may visit the funeral home on Friday from 12:00-8:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Beggs.
