• TATUMS -- Services for Ceasar "Cecil" Hooks, 71, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Pilgrim Baptist Church in Tatums with the Rev. Harold Brewer officiating. Interment will be at Tatums Cemetery under the direction of Kirk-Dawson-Dillard Funeral Home.
Hooks was born Aug. 27, 1930, in Tatums. He died March 13, 2002, at the local hospital.
While serving with the Marines from March 20, 1952, to March 19, 1956, he was awarded the National Defense Service, Korean Service, United Nations Service and Good Conduct medals. He married Jedie Dansby on July 6, 1956, in Los Angeles and retired as a pumper for Texaco Oil Company. He was preceded in death by his wife on April 9, 1982; and sister, Gwendolyn Hooks, on Aug. 27, 1997.
Survivors include two daughters, Che're Hooks, Los Angeles, and Jacqueline Winterlich, Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Joseph "J.R.," Tatums; two sisters, Davetta Austin and Vandora Irving, also Los Angeles; and a grandchild.
Bearers will be Wallace, Leonardo, Renita, Cynthia and Barbara Hooks, Leonard and LaTonya Austin, Jeremy Vandervort, Conrad Winterlich, Darrell Hall, Bettina Stephens, and Cynthia Sublet. Honorary bearers are Irvin Jackson, Vencent Hall, Darnell Hooks, Park Prince, Clarence Jones and Emil Franklin.
