Mildred 'Millie' Mae Schwartz Coates, descendant of Oklahoma Land Patent Pioneers and lifetime Oklahoma City resident was born April 2, 1925 and died November 3, 2006 at home. Millie was a homemaker and for many years a stay at home Mom. She was successful at many ventures including work during WWII at a Calif lemon house, avocado ranch and TAFB; later as a dance teacher, co owner and manager of OKC Table Tennis Center, at the Oklahoma County Tag agency, and the Oklahoma Tax Commission MV from where she retired. She served as a precinct registrar, election poll and campaign worker; volunteered at the Breast Cancer Screening Clinic and VA Hospital and organized and participated in charitable project work for the Women of the Moose. She was foremost a Christian and member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church for over 20 years. Previously a charter member of Asbury UMC and in her youth, Capitol Hill Baptist Church. Other memberships included ESA Delta Pi business sorority, First Families of the Twin Territories, First Families of Cleveland County, Women of the Moose (Senior Regent), Daughters of Union Veterans Sallie Peacheater Tent #18, American Legion Auxiliary and Oklahoma Genealogical Society. Millie is survived by her children Carol Coates Cooley, Donald Coates and wife Ruth, Cheri Coates Delano Shaw and husband Tim; Eight grandchildren, Michelle Cooley Howard, Lynne Cooley Baker, Robert Cooley, Lisa Cooley, Holly Delano, Ryan Delano, Charles Coates, Laura Coates Haws; ten great grandchildren, brother in law David Coates and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years Louis Byron Coates Jr., parents Henry Jay and Ruby Doolen Schwartz, sisters Barbara Schwartz Parker and Pauline Schwartz, brothers Henry M. Schwartz and Louis H. Schwartz and son in law James H. Cooley. The family would like to acknowledge her caregivers from City Hospice and Home Instead for their caring and faithful service. Memorials are suggested to Chapel Hill United Methodist Endowment Fund or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (Heart or Arthritis research).
