John "Johnny" C. Fillips Jr., 72, died on December 8, 2012 at his home in Bethany. He was born June 16, 1940 in Oklahoma City to John and Susie Fillips of Harrah, Oklahoma. He graduated from Harrah High School in 1958. Johnny was an ordained Reader and a member of St. Benedict Russian Orthodox Church, an honorary member of RPOA (Retired Police Officers Assn.), a lifelong NRA member. He loved woodworking and made several furnishings for his beloved St. Benedict Orthodox Church and other Orthodox Churches close to his heart. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing. Johnny served in the Navy (1958-1964), worked at the Oklahoma City Police Department (1963-1968), and drove for Trans-Con and retired from Roadway Express in 1999. Johnny was preceded in death by his father, John. He was survived by his wife Betty Kaye Fillips, Bethany, Oklahoma; his mother, Susie Fillips, Harrah, Oklahoma; son, Very Reverend Archpriest Fr. John Filipovich, Alpine, Texas; son, Randy and Gayla Fillips of Harrah; daughter, Shawna & Mike Gibson of Harrah; son, Brent Davis & Tarina Brewer of Bethany; grandchildren, John Robert Fillips, Shelby and Brandon Gibson, Rachael Gibson, James Gibson, Alexis Smith, Chelsea Sexton, Johnny Preston Sexton, Kally Sexton. A very special thanks to Mercy Hospice, they were so warm and compassionate. In Lieu of flowers the family request donations may be made to St. Benedict Orthodox Church. Visitation was held on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. The Panikhida Service was held Wednesday, December 12, 6:30 PM at St. Benedict Orthodox Church. Funeral Services were on Thursday, Dec. 13, 10:00 AM at St. Benedict Orthodox Church, 3900 Jones Blvd. Oklahoma City, followed by interment at St. Mary's Ukranian Cemetery, 6700 N. Dobbs, Harrah.
