Walter Green Black was born 21 Jul 1881 in Alabama to Alimoth B Black and Martha Ann Webster. He was 1 of 9 or 10 children born to the couple who were married 31 Oct 1870 in Fayette County, Alabama. He was the forth of the 8 identified children.

On June 17, 1880 the Black family was living in Township 14, Range 12, Fayette County, Alabama. Alimoth was a farmer and Martha was keeping house. The household members are Alimoth B Black 32, Martha Ann Webster 27, Mary J Black 8, Samuel Smith "Sam" Black 7, and Frances Parlee "Fannie" Black 3. They were family 134 on the census and Musgrove Beat appears to be the name of the street they lived on. (I'm not certain of the word beat but it appears after every street name on the census.)

On June 26th 1900 The family has moved to a rented home in Canadian, Cleveland, Oklahoma. Alimoth is working as a farmer as are his three oldest brothers. His mother says she has had 10 children 7 of which are still alive (in 1910 she says she has had 9 children with 7 still living.) Household members include Alimoth B Black 52, Martha Ann Webster 46, Samuel Smith Black 27, Walter Green Black 18, William Lafayette Black 15, Early Jefferson Black 9, Murray Washington Black 9, Roy Lee Black 6. They are family 347/351 on the census sheet.

(Canadian was located near the Joseph Harp Correction Center in Lexington, Cleveland, Oklahoma. At became part of Lexington. It listed in all of the censuses separately from Lexington.)

Sometime in 1909 Walter married Emma E Smith. She was born 02 Dec 1885 in Kentucky.

April 11th 1910 their first child, Joseph Cornelius "Neal" Black, is born.

April 20th 1910 Walter and his new bride are renting a farm in Lexington, Cleveland, Oklahoma. He is working as a farmer. Emma says she had had 1 child which is still living. Household members include Walter Green Black 28, Emma E Smith 24, and

Joseph Cornelius "Neal" Black 0. They are family 98/99 on the census sheet.

Sometime in 1911 Roland Black is born. Unfortunately he passes away that same year at 9 months old due to congestion on the brain. He was buried in St. John's Cemetery in Lexington, Cleveland, Oklahoma.

Sometime in 1912 Arlond Black is born and also passes away the same year he is born.

Around 1914 Paul Black is born.

Bet. Jul–Aug 1915 Martha Black is born.

September 12th 1918, at the age of 37, Walter registers for the WWI draft. He is living in Lexington, Cleveland, Oklahoma and lists Martha Black ( presumably his mother ) as his closest relative. He says he is a farmer and is working for himself. His physical description is medium height, medium build, light hair and blue eyes.

By January 9th 1920 they owned a home on Almond St. in Lexington, Cleveland, Oklahoma. Walter worked as a drayman for the town. ( a dray is a low, strong cart without fixed sides, for carrying heavy loads and a drayman a person who drives a dray.) Household members include Walter Green Black 38, Emma E Smith 34, Joseph Cornelius "Neal" Black 10, Paul Black 5, and Martha Black 4 years 5 months. They are family 142/148 is on the census sheet.
