Cora Backest (1925-2012)
DENISON – Cora Adell Backest, 87, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Homestead of Denison, Texas.
The family will be at Bratcher Funeral Home for visitation from 6 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lowell Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera, Okla.
Pallbearers will be Colby Nunley, Brian Cole, Donnie Walton, Adam Chastain, Tyler Crawford, Mike Bush, Chance Backest, Donn Gordon, Carl Johnson and Todd King.
Cora was born May 1, 1925 in Springhill, Ark., the daughter of Richard Allen Johnson and Jodie Moses Johnson. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by sons, Howard Backest of Bells, Richard Backest of Houston; daughters, Jo Bush and husband Douglas of Denison, Everetta Nunley and husband Clarence of Colbert, Okla., Jeanette Cole of Denison; brother, Carl Johnson of Tulsa, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren.
She is preceded in death by husband Howard "Pug" Backest; parents Richard Allen Johnson and Jodie Moses Johnson; son Robert Backest; grandson Brit Cole; brothers Robert and Melvin Johnson; sister Gladys Smith and best friend Helen Watson.
