Kathleen Ann Barnes, Duke, died Friday, March 31, 2006 in her home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 3, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Duke with Rev. Wayne Knight officiating. Burial will follow at the Rock Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Kathleen Ann Barnes was born to Arthur and Patricia Southerland on January 11, 1948 at Whibey Island, Oak Harbor, Washington. Kathy was a graduate of Moore High School and Oklahoma State University and was a member of the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants. Kathy married Lynn Barnes in 1971 and moved to Randlett, Oklahoma. She was employed as an accountant at Fisher Land & Cattle, Co. in Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1978, she and her family moved to Duke, Oklahoma. Her pride and joy were her children and their participation in livestock shows, sports and other activities. Kathy loved serving as the Rodeo Secretary for the Oklahoma High School Rodeo Association and was honored with the National Secretary of the Year award in 1997. Kathy loved her family, her friends, and her community. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church where she was the church treasurer for many years. She was the City Clerk for Duke and the school treasurer for Duke Public Schools for many years up until her illness. She was a long time member of the 20th Century Club. In 2005, the Duke Chamber of Commerce named her the Outstanding Citizen of the Year. Kathy is survived by her husband Lynn Barnes, daughter, Becky and her husband Todd Warren, son Billy Joe Barnes and his wife Wendy, son Benny Barnes, and granddaughter Payton Barnes, all of Duke. She is also survived by her parents Arthur and Patricia Southerland, sisters Arlene Southerland, Clara and her husband Tom Skaggs, Sara and her husband Steve Watkins, brother Arthur Southerland and his wife Cindy brother-in-law Bennie Barnes, 10 nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. She was proceeded in death by grandson Brody Guy Barnes. Published in The Oklahoman on 4/2/2006.
