James Eva Gay, the second son of Dave and Mary Gay, was born in Tullahassee, Oklahoma on December 26, 1930. James (better known as Man Gay) grew to manhood and remained in Tullahassee until his demise. He united with the First Baptist Church at an early age under the pastorage of Rev. J. C. Hickman.
On August 2, 1952, he was united in marriage to Delores (Katy) Ponds. Four children were born and reared in this union.
James (Man) was an active member of First Baptist Church, (Mayor) Chairman of Tullahassee City Council and an irreplaceable employee of the Tullahassee school board. Whenever the community needed a helping hand, Man would answer the call with unfailing dedication.
James was called from this life suddenly on Sunday morning, October 2, 1977, at 11:30 A.M.
He leaves to mourn his death, his devoted wife, Delores (Katy), one daughter, Delores (Pinkey), 3 sons, Bonito, James D. and Gerald, one daughter-in-law, Sandra, two sisters, Claretha Gay, Ms. Anna Ruth Bolden and one brother, Dave Gay, all of Omaha, Nebraska, five aunts, Susie Matthews of Tulsa, Ruth Freeman of Tulsa, Ollie Jacobson of California, Alma McPhaul of Wichita, Kansas, Velma Washington of Tulsa (whom he referred to as mother-in-law), and one uncle, William vice of California, two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Frederick (Ernestine) Ford of Saginaw, Michigan, Mrs. Willie (Ella) Johnson of Tulsa, five brothers-in-law, Mr. William Allen of Omaha, Nebraska, Mr. Harold Long of Omaha, Nebraska, Mr. William Allen of Omaha, Nebraska, Mr. Harold Long of Omaha, Nebraska, Mr. O. D. Ponds of Wichita, Kansas, Mr. Q. D. Ponds of Tulsa, Mr. Perry Ponds of California, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
