Birth: Aug. 20, 1884
Plumerville
Conway County
Arkansas, USA
Death: Nov. 5, 1944
Poplar Bluff

Missouri, USA

Laura was born August 20, 1884, in Plumerville, Arkansas and died November 5, 1944 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She married Lee Jack Harston of Arkansas.

Lee and Jerry Harston wrote the following about their grandmother:

Laura was a kind, industrious, thrifty person. She also had a good education; finishing the eighth grade. She was from a big family that had moved to Oklahoma from Conway, Arkansas. Her father had fought in the Civil War. The Wallaces were a little better off than the Harstons. Lee was moving up in the world, though initially his in-laws detested him. Laura started having children right away. First there was Robert who died as an infant.

Most of the Harston children had nicknames; Leroy's was Babe. After all he was Laura Harston's little bow-legted baby. He was the baby a little longer than usual because the next one died Lubertha's nickname was 'Sis', and Leoo's was 'Bro-tuss.'

Even with the death of Babe's little brother, his tenure as cute little baby came to an end in about three years. He was un-lapped by his cute little sister, Lloyd, nicknamed 'Girlie'.

Even before 'Girlie's' birth, Babe had to share his mother's lamp and love with another little boy, Levi. Levi was given to Lee and Laura Harston by his mother, Stella Wallace Drew, to raise as their very own. Stella was one of Laura's many sisters. Levi was a few months older than Babe. His nickname was 'Sonny'.

In 1920 Laura (35) and Lee (50) lived in Bartow Township, Arkansas County, Arkansas of Tennessee. He was a farmer and they lived and worked on a rented farm. Aside from the children listed above, they were also the parents of Leona, Lubertha, Abraham, Wilzetta, Elma, L.D., Ruth and Levester.
