Lloyd H. Ballou was born on March 26, 1932 in Lawton, OK to Seth and Aurilla (Kleeman) Ballou. He died at home in Lawton surrounded by family on February 7, 2009. He was 76 years old.
Lloyd was raised and attended school at Mount Scott School then proceeded to the Stoney Point Community and eventually to Elgin. After he completed his schooling, Lloyd worked as a jockey for several years on dirt tracks in Oklahoma. He was inducted into the Army during the Korean War and served 2 years in France. After his discharge, he worked as a jockey and later as a trainer at Los Alamitos Race Track in California. He returned to the Lawton area in the early 1970's and again worked as a jockey until he was able to obtain a position as a contract mail carrier with the postal service in 1974. He retired in 1995.
Through out Lloyd's life he maintained a love for horses, and remained interested in racing Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds even in his retirement years. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lynn and Wayne Ballou, and a sister, Nettie Fran Hankins.
Survivors include his wife Ila of the home; step-daughter Terry Ballou and husband Brad of Lawton; step-son Scott Collins of Waco, TX; 2 brothers, Lon Ballou and wife Leigh Ann of Roosevelt, OK and Lawrence Ballou and wife Cindy of Cache, OK; one sister, Lounita Zimmerman of Elgin, OK and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
