Mrs. Rosa Lee Brooks was born on March 31, 1939 in Kermit, TX to John W. Ray and Willie Joe (Kuykendall) Ray. She died on Friday, October 28, 2011, at her home in El Reno, OK. Rosa grew up in Kermit, TX and graduated high school in Monahans, TX. She obtained a B.S. in Elementary Education and a M.E.D. in Natural Science Secondary Education, an M.S. in Counseling Psychology and graduated Cum Laude and Summa Cum Laude. Rosa met Bob, the love of her life, in 1959 in Texas. The two married on November 22, 1959. They moved to Oklahoma, where they made their life together with their two children. Rosa was an Elementary and Secondary School Teacher for 20 years. She also was employed with the State Department of Education as a Psychometrist and also served as the Director of the Regional Service Center for seven years. She also taught at the Canadian Valley Vo-Tech for eight years in adult upholstery and in the Academic and Testing Center. Rosa enjoyed her family and going on yearly family vacations to Lake City, CO and to a friend's ranch near Vici, OK. She enjoyed horseback riding, rock and geode collecting, and sewing. She cherished the quality time she was able to spend with her grandchildren. Rosa routinely thought of others more than self. She enjoyed her work as a Bible Class Teacher and her service to the Lord. She went out of her way to make a happy home, lend a listening ear, share words of encouragement, and praise a job well done. She always said it was better to give than to receive. Rosa was an example to all those around her, and her acts of kindness and love played out in her life time after time.Rosa was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Oklahoma Education Association, El Reno Education Association, and the Canadian Valley Lions Club Chapter.Rosa was preceded in death by her parents, John & Willie Jo (Kuykendall) Ray; and her loving husband, Bob Brooks.Survivors include her son, Bobby Norvell Brooks, Jr., and his wife, Kristie, of Tulsa, OK; her daughter, of the home, Edie Jo Ryan, and her husband, Bobby, of El Reno, OK; grandchildren: Conner and MaKena Ryan, of the home in El Reno, OK; Trey Brooks of Tulsa, OK; and Courtney Brooks of Texas; step-grandchildren, Jamie Ho of California and Emily Ho of Tulsa, OK; a great-grandson, Brayden Brandt of Texas; sisters: Carol Collette and husband, Sam Collette, of Texas; and Deloris Madison of Texas; a brother, Mickey Ray of Texas; a brother-in-law, George Roach of Mangum, OK; and brother-in-law, Glendon Brooks and wife, Dora Brooks, of Yukon, OK.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, November 3, 2011, at the London and Macomb Church of Christ in El Reno. Mr. Robert L. Gregg and Mr. Gary Henson will officiate. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery, northeast of El Reno, OK. Services are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be made to either the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society .
