Services Sunday At New Harmony For Mrs. Calvert
Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday in the New Harmony Baptist church northwest of town for Mrs. Roxie Ann Calvert, 89, a pioneer settler in the Cottonwood school district where she has lived since January, 1897. Omer Delk conducted the services and burial was in the Oakdale cemetery. Mrs. Calvert died Jan. 18 in a Clinton hospital where she had been five weeks after being painfully injured in a fall at her home.
On Aug. 12, 1899, Mrs. Calvert united as a charter member of the Green Ridge Baptist church (now New Harmony) and remained a member until her death.
Roxie Ann Givens was born Jan. 16, 1862, in Overton, Mo. She spent her early life in Missouri and was married to Joseph Calvert Nov, 24, 1881, at Overton. To them four sons and a daughter were born. Mr. and Mrs. Calvert moved to Texas where they lived until they came to the new country northwest of Carnegie 54 years ago.
Survivors are her daughter, Mrs. Elva Lena Wilbourn, Cordell, and a son Jesse Roy Calvert of the home address. Also eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and other near relatives survive.
