Mrs. Bill Barker

Mrs. Bill Barker, age 39, prominent civic leader, died Sunday, June 7, in a Prairie Grove hospital following a brief illness of two days. Mrs. Barker was born and reared in Adair county. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eastern Star, Methodist church and Missionary society; also a teacher of a Sunday school class in the M.E. church.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. E.R. Hall, pastor of the First Christian church officiating. The choir was composed of ladies from the Stilwell Eastern Star chapter. The American Legion Auxiliary members acted as flower bearers. Members of these organizations with Mrs. Barker's Sunday school class attended the services in a body.

After the funeral services in Stilwell the body was taken in Oak Grove cemetery where Rev. Hamilton of Westville, conducted funeral services, after which Eastern Star services were held. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery under the direction of the Roberts funeral home.

The deceased is survived by her husband, Bill Barker, two daughters, Roxie and Kathryn, and son, Joe, her mother, Mrs. Lizzie Bigby, several sisters and brothers, and other relatives and many friends.

Each point on the star has an emblem of a different biblical heroine, four of whom are in the scriptures (Adah, Ruth, Esther, Martha, and Electa) and the qualities they represent- fidelity, constancy, loyalty, faith, and love.
