Birth: Jul. 16, 1864
Death: Jun. 1, 1924

Obituary of Mrs. J.S. Newby. Hester Ann Miller was born in Tipton Co, Indiana, July 16, 1863, being the only daughter of Daniel and Keziah Miller. Here she grew to young womanhood and on August 8, 1880, was united in marriage to Julius Saunders Newby in the town of Arcadia, Indiana. To this union 12 children were born, 5 sons, and seven daughters, of whom one son and three daughters have preceded their mother to their eternal home in heaven. Mr. and Mrs. Newby took a homestead in the Kickapoo country and are numbered among those whose greatest ambition in life was to do good to their fellow man and their friendly and hospitable ways of the pioneer was never forgotten for in their home one was made to fill that sort of welcome which warmed the heart blood. It was while living on the farm in the Kickapoo country that the subject of this sketch was converted and joined the Friends church at Happy Hill in 1905, since which time she lived a consistent and dutiful christian life to the time she was called to her eternal reward in heaven, at her home Warwick, Sunday evening, June 1, 1924. Mother Newby, as most everyone familiarly called her, was a rare type of christian mother and best example of Godly living. As a child of the King she was loving, obedient and faithful until death and has heard the welcome plaudit, "Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of the Lord." As a wife she has been what God created her for, a helpmate indeed, loving, kind and tender. As a mother, all that the word means. As a friend none more true loving or thoughtful. She with the inner circle of her friends would spend all the time necessary discussing the great love of Jesus and the work of his kingdom. Her thoughtful actions were everso directed toward pointing all who came in contact with her sweet christian spirit, to her precious Lord and master, and dying with her faith unshaken in her Saviour Jesus Christ. She lives a husband, 8 children, 27 grandchildren, and a host of very dear friends to mourn her passing. Funeral Services were held at Warwick, Monday afternoon at 2:00, Rev. A. W. Fawcett of Wellston officiating. Interment was made in the Family Burial Plot on the old homestead near Happy Hill.
