Ardmore — Services for Damon DeRoy Loftis, son of Marva (King) Loftis and Billy Ray Loftis, age 47, are Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Ardmore's Corinth Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Gene Autry, with Pastor Abraham Walton officiating.
Damon was born November 29, 1964, in Ardmore, Okla. At a young age, he joined Corinth Baptist Church and was baptized during the leadership of Dr. C.M. Franks. His elementary education was acquired at Washington and Will Rogers Elementary before attending the Ardmore Middle School. Damon graduated Ardmore High School with the Class of 1983. While a high school junior, Damon was granted the distinguished honor to serve Governor George Nigh as a page at the State Capital in Oklahoma City.
Soon after graduating high school, Damon began employment with Best Buy Food Stores. He later began employment with Dornick Hills Country Club. Recently, Damon was employed at the Roadway Inn Hotel, and for many years provided many years of faithful services to the Brunner Family.
Damon was the most humble person one could ever meet. He was so kind to everyone. He was a ‘nice' guy. Damon opened up his backyard to friends and strangers alike with his awesome barbecue, smoked meats and great conversations. He loved entertaining family and friends.
Back in the day, Damon enjoyed playing basketball and softball with family and friends. He also played with the Northeast Allstars, and Grant and Owens softball teams. His friends and dad played in many tournaments.
Recently, Damon was an avid billiard player on the Virgie's Renagades Pool team. He won cash prizes during his reign at Virgie's as Team Captain for more than 10 years.
Damon always stepped in to fill the need for his family. He was a wonderful brother, a great brother-in-law and the family disciplinarian. Yes, Uncle Damon would keep the kids in line. He had a stern look and a strong voice, yet, underneath that appearance, Damon was a real teddy bear. His friends knew him as "Cool-Breeze." We will all miss him and his big smile.
He departed this mortal life Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Ardmore's Mercy Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness. Damon was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willie and Arlevia Loftis, Elaine Zee Banks and John H. King; a niece, Krystal Rae Dawn Loftis; and a great-uncle, John King.
Memories are left to be cherished by his companion, Arlena; both parents of Ardmore; two daughters, Airel (Mikkel Phillips) and Jacinda; two brothers, Carlton and Cynthia Jordan and Antonio Loftis; two sisters, Tina and Anthony Harris and Ranetta Loftis; three grandchildren, Mikkel Jr., Iri and MiKaya Phillips; aunt, JoAnn King; two great-aunts, Christine Clark and Evelyn Gentry; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at Kirk Funeral Home Friday evening from 7 until 8.
