Funeral Service Wednesday for H. B. Baird--Services were at held Wednesday at 2:00 for H. B. Baird, 89, who passed away early Monday morning at the Northwest Community Hospital. Mr. Baird had been ill for the past seven weeks.
Rev. H. E. Gatti, officiated at the funeral which was held in the Methodist Church in Mooreland. Burial was in Mooreland Cemetery under direction of Knittel Funeral Home.
Harry Baird was among the early settlers in Mooreland neghborhood, and for many years was engaged in the shoe and harness repair business. He served as Justice of the Peace for several years.
OBITUARY
Harry Burris Baird, son of Joseph and Mary C. Truman Baird, was born March 7, 1864 in Champaign County, Illinois and departed this life at Northwest Community Hospital, December 28, 1953, at the age of 89 years and 9 months.
At the age of nine years he moved with his parents to Ottawa County, Kansas, where he grew to manhood.
On October 3, 1888, he was united in marriage to Rachel Boyle. They made their home in Clay County, Kansas until 1894 when they moved to Pawnee County, Oklahoma. In 1906 they homesteaded a place some twenty-five miles northeast of Mooreland where they lived until coming to Mooreland in 1916 and have made their home here since then.
Mr. Baird was converted at a very early age and remained true to his Saviour, whether he lived in a community where church services were available or not.
Survivors are his wife Rachel of the home. One son, John Albert Baird of Mooreland; two sisters, Mrs. C. H. Benefiel (Mary), Seneca, Missouri, and Mrs. M. W. Yonally (Iva), Miltonvile, Kansas; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; numerous nices and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Two sons preceded him in death.
