Graduating with both a bachelors and masters degrees from Oklahoma State University, Mike was a true renaissance man blessed with many talents, which he shared generously. He was an artist and illustrator, a model builder, winning competitions at the State Fair, an actor, appearing in 14 movie productions, an author of Oklahoma textbooks, a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a living history reenactor, and most of all he was a teacher. His accomplishments are many; in 1988 he was named Oklahoma's teacher of the year and named one of the top five teachers in America. He received the Freedom Foundation Award from the Valley Forge Foundation and a lifetime achievement for the Greatest Contribution to Social Studies by the Close-up Foundation to name a few. He has served as chair for the National Teacher and Administrator of the year award, was a Cub Scout leader, a gunfighter at Frontier City and a reenactor for over 30 years. He taught public school in the Moore district for 26 years before becoming the Director of Education for the Oklahoma History Center. He has enriched not only his friends, but also the thousands of people that he came into contact with throughout his career. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, June; and his two sons, Jason and Brett; daughters in-law, Emily and Ashley; and Jason & Emily's children, Vohn and Vega. His mother, Pauline Adkins; his brother, Bruce, his wife Amy, and their children, Eric and Paige; also survive him. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at Westmoore Community Church, 12609 S. Western. Interment to follow at City of Moore Cemetery.
