WOODS COUNTY ENTERPRISE & WAYNOKA NEWS (Waynoka, Oklahoma) - Thu - 22 Jan 1942

George W. Bixler, the son of Albert and Elizabeth Bixler, deceased, was born in Richland County, Illinois, September 5, 1880, and departed this life at his home 7 1/2 miles N. W. of Waynoka, January 18, 1942, at the age of 61 years, 4 months, and 13 days.

When a small baby, his parents moved with the family to Kingman County, Kansas, and lived there until he was nine years old when his mother died. Then the father and children returned to the old home in Illinois where they resided until he was 17 years old. At that time, he, his father, and his brother came to Oklahoma.

In 1903 he filed on the present home, and on January 17, 1904, he was united in marriage to Mattie Ferguson. To this union were born five children. For the past several years, his health had been failing. Through all his years of suffering, he still lead his active life, unable to carry on his many activities, yet he was unwilling to give up, bravely fighting on with his same pioneer spirit.

Those left to mourn his departure are his wife; his sons, Ralph of Waynoka, Floyd of Moline, Ill., and Ray of the home; two daughters, Edna Buckland of Waynoka and Gladys Thompson of Enid; four grandchildren; a brother, Elmer of Waynoka; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Walter of Enid and Mrs. Gertrude Nugent of Los Angeles, Calif.; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
