Judy Avery, 63, of Perry, Oklahoma, was the daughter of Robert "Merle" and Julia Ann (Stam) Stebbins. She was born on July 6, 1943 in Pryor, Oklahoma and died Sunday, February 11, 2007 at the Perry Memorial Hospital.
Judy was raised near Garber, Oklahoma and graduated from Garber High School. She attended Enid Business College and Oklahoma State University.
On December 3, 1961, Judy married Dennis A. Avery in Covington, Oklahoma. They lived in the Enid area until 1968 when they moved to Moab, Utah. In 1970 they returned to the Enid area and then to Perry.
Judy owned her own business Avery-Zumwalt Insurance and Accounting. In 1976 she was elected County Assessor and served one term in office. She worked at Oklahoma State University from 1981 to 1992 when she retired due to her health.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Perry and the Perry Elks Lodge. Judy had a great sense of humor and loved practical jokes.
A family visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2007 at Brown-Dugger Funeral Home in Perry.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007 in the First Baptist Church in Perry. Interment will be in the McGuire Cemetery at Lucien, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, 1010 N. 7th Street, Perry, Oklahoma 73077.
Judy is survived by her husband, Dennis Avery of the home; two sons, Merle Alan Avery and his wife, Rebecca, of Frisco, Texas and Glen Austin Avery of Arlington, Texas; one grandson, Jacob Alan Avery of Frisco, Texas; a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and her two loving pets, "Bo" and "Pepper".
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Robert Stebbins, and two sisters, Loretta and Baby Stebbins.
