Services for Donald Evert Collier will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2013, in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Lone Chapel Cemetery in Mayes County. He passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013, at the age of 74 years.
Donald was born on November 25, 1938, in Inola, Oklahoma. He was the son of Jasper and Myrtle (Storm) Collier. He grew up and attended school in Claremore, graduating from Claremore High School.
After completing his education, Donald began his military career, retiring after 29 years of service to his country. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Field Artillery Senior Sergeant. He received 12 commendations—the Army Service Ribbon, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Army Achievement Medal just to mention a few.
With no desire to sit idle, Donald began a second career as a mechanic for the City of Oklahoma City. He retired after 26 years. When he wasn't working, Donald loved to tinker with old cars-- pulling parts and replacing engines. Another favorite pastime was bingo. He visited the casinos enough to earn an "astute membership" in every location within a 50 mile radius of his home town of Meeker. He also loved relaxing trips boating and camping on many nearby lakes.
This father, grandfather, brother and friend will be missed by those he leaves behind. Survivors include his son Jimi Collier and wife Melody of Skiatook; daughter Anji Sullivan and husband Larry of Moore; brothers Phillip Collier and wife Ruby of Meeker, Odie Collier and wife Gene of Claremore; grandchildren Nicole Collier and Jacob Collier both of Skiatook and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Doyle, Charles and William and sisters Juanita and Julie Mae.
