George Byron "Buck" Walker Burnett
George Byron "Buck" Walker Burnett, 92 of Talihina, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010. He was born March 21, 1918 in Haileyville, Oklahoma to George Washington Burnett and Myrtle Jane Walker Burnett.
Buck married the love of his life Elizabeth "PeeWee" King on September 20, 1948 and began a home. His life was spent giving to his family and others.
Buck was a carpenter and also owner operator of two grocery stores in Buffalo Valley. He was a former member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. Buck proudly volunteered to serve in the United States Army Air Force during WWII as an Air Craft Mechanic and was a lifetime member of the DAV and VFW. He later became a General Motors Certified Technician and Mechanic.
Buck was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt, fish and just enjoy the beautiful nature that God has created. He loved eating fish of all kinds and would hunt anything including wild hogs and rattlesnakes. Buck was awarded the Cy Curtis Buck Award for his outstanding Trophy deer. Another love of his was music; he played the guitar, harmonica and piano.
Buck truly had an amazing desire to help people. He gave his time, love and money to those in need and he never met a stranger.
Buck is preceded in death by his wife PeeWee and parents.
He is survived by four sons: Wayne Burnett of Talihina, Keith Burnett of Falfa, Albert Burnett of Talihina, John Bull of Buffalo Valley; three daughters: Jane Mobra of Broken Arrow, Janelle Kirkes of Yanush, Kathy Glenn of Wilburton; one sister Agatha Cook of Anchorage; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2010 at the Buffalo Valley School Gymnasium in Buffalo Valley, Oklahoma with the Reverends Chester Cooley and Rodney Mattox officiating. Interment will follow at the King Cemetery in Buffalo Valley, Oklahoma. Viewing will be held 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday May 9, 2010 at the Talihina Funeral Home in Talihina, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
