| Birth: | Feb. 7, 1932 Lincoln County Oklahoma, USA | | Death: | Aug. 8, 2009 McAlester Pittsburg County Oklahoma, USA |  Lloyd was born near McLoud in Lincoln Co., OK to Joseph W. and Della Maude Brown Basinger. He attended McLoud High School and graduated in the Class of 1950. He enlisted in the United States Army after high school and spent tours in Korea and Japan before he was discharged in 1953. He married Gloria Lenzner on Aug. 8, 1959, in Antigo, Wis. and they had one daughter and three sons. He was employed with Babcock and Wilcox Construction Company as construction superintendent. In 1960, he began his career as a state trooper with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. In 1970, he was assigned to McAlester in the aircraft division, and retired in 1987 at the rank of 1st lieutenant and troop commander. After the highway patrol, he worked with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections as the assistant regional director and retired there after 12 years. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Retired Trooper's Association. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, attending Bluegrass festivals, fishing, and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Basinger, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Kenney Harmon, of Shawnee; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Melonie Basinger, of Marietta, Doug and Debbie Basinger, of McAlester, and James and Angela Basinger, of Edmond. Also, two sisters, Billie June Lemons, Boonville, Calif., and Keitha Mae McAdoo, Whitehouse Station, N.J.; two brothers, Lonnie Basinger, Derby, Kan., and Jim Basinger, Marysville, Wash. And, grandchildren and spouses, Emily and Jason Smith, of Moore, Riley Harmon, Pittsburgh, Penn., Heather and Jared Burgett, of Stuart, Jared Basinger, of Fittstown, Rachel Basinger, of McAlester, Devin Basinger, of McAlester, Ashlyn Basinger, of Edmond, Landen Basinger, of Edmond, Kaden Basinger, of Edmond, Bria Basinger, of Edmond, and Abree Basinger, of Edmond. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Della Basinger, and a brother, Murriel Brown. Pallbearers will be the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Knights of Columbus. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church with Father Leonard Higgins officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. at Jamison Cemetery in McLoud with Chaplain Sam Garner officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
