Ruby Blair, longtime Hardesty area resident passed away on Saturday afternoon, March 29, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Liberal, Kansas just 3 weeks short of her 94th birthday.
Ruby Lorraine (Neff) Blair was born in a sod house on a homestead near Stonington, Colorado on April 21, 1914, the daughter of Carl Pierson Neff and Mary Ellen (Wadley) Neff.
Ruby was united in marriage to James Robert Blair on June 24, 1934 in Guymon. James preceded her in death on June 10, 1989.
Ruby spent most of her adult life in the Oklahoma Panhandle. For the majority of her life, she lived with her husband, James and their family on their farm in the Camrick-Hardesty area. She graduated from Panhandle State College in 1960 with degrees in Social Studies and English and was a school teacher at the Eureka High School at Baker, Oklahoma and at the Hugoton, Kansas High School. She was a charter member of the Bethel Baptist Church and actively participated in this church for most of the 50 years she lived in the Camrick-Hardesty area. Ruby lived the last 12 years of her life at the Good Samaritan Center in Liberal, Kansas.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Mary Ellen Neff; her brothers: Nolen Neff and his wife, Bernice and Arden Neff and his wife, Rena; and one grandson, Mark Blair.
Survivors include her four children: Edward Blair and his wife, Rena of Leakey, Texas, Sharon Brown and her husband, Jimmie of Hardesty, Oklahoma, Tommy Blair and his wife, Karen of Neosho, Missouri, and Bobby Blair and his wife, Doris of Sterling, Oklahoma. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Donia (Brown) Anderson, Nancy (Brown) Overton, Tammy (Brown) Overton, Lisa (Brown) Ward, Craig Blair, Brent Blair, David Blair, Carla (Blair) Dean, Randal Blair, Amy (Blair) Urlaub, Dana Blair and Jill (Blair) Robinson; 19 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, April 1st at 2:00 p.m. at the Bunch - Roberts Chapel in Guymon. Interment will follow in the Hartville Cemetery, located 2 miles east, 1 mile south and ½ mile east of Hardesty.
The family will greet friends at the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home on Monday evening, March 31st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
