Death: May 27, 1996

Laurence A. BRANSGROVE, 78, of Liberal, KS, died May 27, 1996.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 30, at 1 :30 p.m. at First
Southern Baptist Church in LIberal with Rev. Keith Bryant officiating. Burial
will be in Gray Cemetery in Gray, OK, under the direction of Kitch Funeral Home.
He was born Oct. 11, 1917 in
Beaver County, OK, and was a
1934 graduate of Perryton High
School. He graduated from Northwestern State College in Alva,
OK in 1940, and received his
master's degree in education from
West Texas State University in 1966.
He served in the U.S. Army
Corps as a bomber pilot during
World War II and earned the rank
of second lieutenant before being
honorably discharged in 1945. He
married Jeannine PALMER on July
26 1959 in Amarillo.
A retired teacher, he taught in
Oklahoma, Colorado and Kansas
schools for over 30 years. He was
superintendent of schools in
Sheridan Lake and Haswell, CO
before moving to Liberal in 1964.
He was a teacher at Liberal High
School for 19 years, and
served as the school's speech and
debate coach until his retirement
in 1983.
In addition, he and his brother
Weldon had a farming partnership in Beaver County and near
Eads, CO for over 40 years, which
inc1uded other enterprises such as
a drug store in Eads, custom harvesting, additional farming operations in Texas
and independent oil and gas lease work. . I
He was a member of the First
Southern Baptist Church of Liberal and the National Retired
Teacher's Association.
He is survived by his wife,
Jeannine, of the home; two sons,
Gene BRANSGROVE of Perryton and
Alan BRANSGROVEof Amarillo; two sisters, Florence Bass of Beaver,
OK and Neva Hardiman of I
Lawton, OK; and five grandchildren.
