John Dunn Burnett of Boise City, Oklahoma, passed from this world on September14, 2010, at his home, at the age of 62 years. John was born at Dalhart, Texas, on January 2, 1948, to Mary Ruth Atkins Burnett and Robert Brunett of Cimarron County. He was raised on the Burnett ranch north of Boise City on the Cimarron River.

John attended Boise City Schools all twelve years, graduating from high school on May 19, 1966. A member of ROTC during his college years, in 1971 he completed the Engineer Officer Basic School. John was serving as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Engineers in Washington D.C., when he received a hardship discharge because of the severe illness of his father. He worked on the ranch helping his parents until after his father's death.

In 1973, John and a good friend, Jim Risley. went to work for a short time in a silver mine in Crede, Colorado. Returning home to Cimarron County he worked at various jobs until 1986 when he began working at the Farm Service Agency in Boise City. He worked at the Agency until his retirement on November 30, 2008.

John Dunn Burnett and Edith Priscilla Nolan of Miami, New Mexico were married on November 21, 1984, in Texhoma, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Priscilla; his step- daughter, Tiona Bishop, of San Diego, California; his son Daniel Burnett of Stillwater, Oklahoma; aunt Opal Blanchett, uncle John and aunt Ruth Atkins, all of Boise City; father-in-law Jose Alfonso Nolan, Sr. of Miami, New Mexico; also numerous cousins and a host of wonderful friends. John was a loving husband and father and had many close friends. He loved to tease all of them, and enjoyed his life to the fullest with his family and friends. John had so many good memories of living on the ranch and then he and Priscilla, Tiona and Daniel moved to Boise City in 1991 and the good memories continued to grow. He will be remembered by many and good times will be recalled with a smile or a laugh.
