Charles Alfred Allen, 90, Wagoner pioneer peace officer, died Tuesday, September 29, 1964, in a Wagoner Nursing Home. He was born in Van Buren, Arkansas and came to Wagoner in 1893.
He was Deputy and Chief of Police until his retirement in 1942. Allen was the first Chief of Police in Wagoner after statehood and was a past member of the Masonic Lodge and Oddfellows Lodge. He had been a member of the First Methodist Church here since 1905.
Surviving him are his wife, Esta, of the home; one son, Charles E. Allen, Baxter Springs, Kansas; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Barry, McCloud, Oklahoma and Mrs. Elizabeth Hughes, Elmore City; a sister, Mrs. Delia Morgan, Houston, Texas; Seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held today (Thursday) at 2:30 p.m. in the First Christian Church with Pastor A. K. Fleming officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Hersman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers included, Joe Ben Cobb, James Dorr, Walker Jones, Walter Harvey, Ivan Jennings, and Houston Parsons.
Honorary pallbearers were Euel Lancaster, D. F. Bruner, Charles Jernigan, Marion Cleland, Clark Moss, and Mike Shaumacher.
