During the rainstorm this morning W. O. Allen, constable of Fitzhugh township was struck by lightning and instantly killed.
The tragedy occurred on J. D. Rinard's place, a mile and a half southwest of Roff, Allen was in the barn when it was struck and fired. Three mules belonging g to Allen were killed, and the barn, containing about $500 worth of feed belonging to Mr. Rinard was burned. Besides this a bale of cotton was burned. The barn was probably worth $500 and there was no insurance on anything. Mr. Alien was well known all over the county and had an excellent reputation as a man and an officer. His untimely death is a cause for deep regret.
