O.R. Adams, Sr., Funeral Services Are Held Sunday
O.R. Adams, Sr., a resident of Carnegie the past three years, died unexpectedly early Friday morning in the Veteran's hospital in Oklahoma City.
He was born in Illinois on February 9, 1888, and came to Oklahoma in 1907, settling on a farm about a mile west of Eakly. He lived there until retiring and moving to Carnegie in 1957. He was married to Miss Lura Kelly of Weatherford on April 2, 1921. Six children were born to them. Tow preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Carnegie Methodist church with Rev. Howard Roberts, pastor, officiating. Rev. A.F. Heusel, retired minister, assisted. Burial was in the Eakly cemetery.
A veteran of World War I, he was a member of Co. A, 131st Machine Gun Battalion, 36th Division. Buddies of his during World War I were pallbearers and included Fred Schmidt, Clifford Vickery, Ray Taylor, Augie Sewell, Henry
Whitehead and Frank Ratcliff. Military rites were conducted at the graveside by members of the Carnegie VFW and the Eakly Post. He had been a member of the Methodist church for many years.
He is survived by his wife of the home in Carnegie; two daughters, Mrs. Maxine Holland, Van Nuys, Calif., and Mrs. Vivian Wood, Tulsa; two sons, O.R. Jr., Eakly, and Bill J. of North Hollywood, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Nancy
Steffins, Norristown, Penn., Mrs. Grovie Williamson, Eakly, and Mrs. Pearl Rubottom, Carnegie; and nine grandchildren.
